Hello and welcome to my moth Blog. I now reside in a small village in East Cambridgeshire called Fordham. My Blog's aim is to promote and encourage others to participate in the wonderful hobby that is Moth-trapping.
Moth records are vital for building a picture of our ecosystem around us, as they really are the bottom of the food chain. They are an excellent early indicator of how healthy a habitat is. I openly encourage people to share their findings via social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.
So why do we do it? well for some people it is to get an insight into the world of Moths, for others it is to build a list of species much like 'Twitching' in the Bird world. The reason I do it....you just never know what you might find when you open up that trap! I hope to show what different species inhabit Cambridgeshire and neighbouring counties.

The Garden Moth Trap - Tuesday night

Again words cannot describe how many good moths my garden is producing, it can only be due to the incredibly unusual settled humid weather we are experiencing at the moment.

On the negative side it hasn't rained for ages and the ground is rock solid and the grass is dying!

5 species new for my garden were recorded, including the local Bordered Sallow, a stunning Varied Coronet and one of the prettiest micro's i've seen in
a while, the pretty in pink Celypha rosaceana.

    Hey Ben,

    Some great moths you're picking up. Bordered Sallow is very rare here in VC55 - we picked one up on Saturday night (the list is still in progress!).

    The photo captioned Ancylis achatana is actually a much more exciting tort - Epinotia abbreviana (Elm feeder).

    Cheers Mark, yes that does look a better fit which is listed as common in my County.
    Yes Bordered Sallow is a stunner and uncommon here.
