A local species, occurring only in certain localities in the south-east of England, frequenting dry, open woodland.
It flies at the end of May and in June, from dusk into the night, when it comes to light.
The larval foodplant is not fully known in this country, but is suspected to be tormentil (Potentilla erecta).
Tormentil grows readily in-between the large clumps of bracken found at Thorndon Park, on numerous occasions we have trapped this dear little Moth, but only in the vicinity of Tormentil, which suggests that this is what it feeds on.
