Welcome

Hello and welcome to my moth Blog. I now reside in a small village in East Cambridgeshire called Fordham. My Blog's aim is to promote and encourage others to participate in the wonderful hobby that is Moth-trapping.
Moth records are vital for building a picture of our ecosystem around us, as they really are the bottom of the food chain. They are an excellent early indicator of how healthy a habitat is. I openly encourage people to share their findings via social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter & Instagram.
So why do we do it? well for some people it is to get an insight into the world of Moths, for others it is to build a list of species much like 'Twitching' in the Bird world. The reason I do it....you just never know what you might find when you open up that trap! I hope to show what different species inhabit Cambridgeshire and neighbouring counties.

I run a trap regularly in my garden and also enjoy doing field trips to various localities over several different counties.

Garden Trap 29-01-13 - Stevenage, Hertfordshire

Well nearly a whole month goes by without a single trapping session and a good helping of post-Christmas snow, it was finally time to set-up the trap again....and I am glad I did as I was rewarded with 15 Moths this morning! and 2 new for the garden.
The wine race is on! (Trent & Matt) you will both notice that in one of my pictures below, I have a selection of wines available, and if I lose at the end of the year then the winner will pick one!

    Great catch Ben,
    13 degrees last night and I didn't trap. Still, the rest of the week looks OK.

    p.s. Where's the Wine??

      bottom picture, top left, a few different varieties and I am sure they will increase in alcohol content by the end of the year! Thanks, it was quite unexpected from my small garden

    I didn't trap either it was blowing a gale through my garden.
    Overnight low was 7.6 deg, and that's higher than a lot of nights last August !
