Field Trip - Bramfield Woods - 24/06/20 - Summer Solstice

A wee bit behind with reports.

Here is a super catch we had at Bramfield Woods back on the 24th of June. A nice round 200 species were recorded in 4 hours over 6 traps run from around 10:30pm.

Of course it was the longest day, and even approaching 11pm it was still light!

Some good species were observed.. Singles of Argyresthia pygmaeella, Pandemis cinnamomeana, Kent Black Arches and loads of Minor Shoulder-knots were my highlights.

Best moth was a site first Schoenobius gigantella, a wetland speciality typically, it must have been blown in on the South-westerly winds that we were experiencing.

Also, the amount of Tortrix moths was rather overwhelming to say the least, and made it hard to pick out anything new as the night progressed! Lovely to see that they've had a good year, unlike the Noctuids.

All in all a cracking good catch.
