Another trip to Weston Park on the first night of July.
I set up 4 traps along the southern hedgerow away from the stately house, just to try a different habitat.
Once again, I got mauled by Clegs!
I had all of the traps set up, and thought about doing some sweeping, that was a bad idea! The grass was so wet that it was impossible, so I went back to the good ole' shake the trees and bushes to see what flies out of them.
I found a nice mature Blackthorn hedgerow and tapped a few times, initially clouds of Hedya pruniana, and then a smaller white moth caught my eye, and with a hurried sweep into the air it was in the net.
Inspected straight away it wasn't the usual Lyonetia clerkella, but prunifoliella and a 2nd county record for Hertfordshire to boot!
Anything else from the traps would be a bonus, and I hadn't even switched them on at this point!
The catch was mediocre for this time of year, and it did get a little cool and even damper than earlier.
Still, a respectable catch made up predominantly of Tortrix moths.
Highlights from the traps were a really large Female Archips crataegana, i've never seen the Female before, and a Small Dotted Buff.
