Expectations and reality

A rather tidy catch last night which included one new for year species and one new for the garden.

Unfortunately the new for garden was a damaged and mangled mess, of what once was, a rather pretty moth.
Maybe a spider had gotten hold of it, or a bird? Sadly it was deceased by the time I went to release it.
The Scallop Shell was a welcome garden tick all the same, and hopefully in it's early days had managed to mate.
So i've included a picture of a smart one I trapped earlier on in the year at my local nature reserve.

The other new moth was a rather smart August Thorn, only my second garden record after one last year.

Talking of smart, there were plenty of Nutmegs in and around the trap once more, one was particularly striking so I photographed that one, and a second Dog's Tooth of the week was very nice.

The weather has been ghastly today, and I shall not be running my trap tonight!
